The minutes from Steering Group 7, held on Thursday 7th October, are now available below. A copy of the presentation given by Rob Halford of EHMS is also provided.
Alan Blundell, Head of Regulatory and Community Services, Wigan MBC, has kindly prepared the attached report as an introduction to the Greater Manchester Public Protection Partnership, Business Compliance Model. You will note in Alan’s report it mentions two websites, these are not currently live but will be in the near future. The links will actually lead to content which will be added by mid-November.
The next Steering Group will be held at Westgate Plaza One, Barnsley on Thursday 7th October 2010, 10am. The agenda for the meeting is available here.

Regional Event – 14th October 2010

You may recall a while ago I advised that the YoHr Regs team would be hosting a joint event with the Local Better Regulation Office (LBRO) on Thursday 14th October. The theme of the event will be to consider how regulators can effectively support businesses in the current economic climate.
Aimed at decision makers and heads of Local Authority regulatory services, the flyer contains further details.
The event is free, finishing with lunch to allow time for networking with colleagues.
Can you please let me know if you plan to attend as numbers will be needed in advance to make necessary catering arrangements.

LBRO are hosting a seminar for leaders and managers of regulatory services to share learning from the creation of the nine new unitary authorities and the establishment in Worcestershire of a joint regulatory service serving seven authorities.

The Office of Fair Trading has launched the Sale of Goods Act (SOGA) hub which is now available at www.oft.gov.uk/saleofgoodsact
Developed in consultation with retailers, Trading Standards, trade associations and business support organisations, the hub provides comprehensive and up to date guidance on the Sale of Goods Act.
The hub contains training materials which are available to access online or to download in a variety of formats. You can also print and save, add your own branding, copy and paste into your existing documents or link to them via your website or intranet.
There are a range of promotional materials to help disseminate materials to staff, businesses or members which will help introduce, remind and embed the training.

West Yorkshire Trading Standards Service has organised a one day training course on the enforcement of firework safety and storage law, as well as other related legislation.
The course is provided in association with Black Cat Fireworks, The British Fireworks Association and the Explosives Industry Group.
The course involves a morning theory session and an afternoon site tour and familiarisation session.
